OCEC Scholarship
A one (1) year $1,700 scholarship, $850 to be paid at the start of each semester on confirmation that the requirement of the grade point and enrollment have been met.
Eligibility:
- Available to active members receiving service from Otero County Electric Cooperative, Inc. and their immediate families.
- Scholarship to be granted to attend an accredited New Mexico University, New Mexico Community College, or New Mexico Technical School.
- Applicant must maintain at least a 2.50 grade point average on 4.00 scale and be considered by the registrar to be a full-time student.
- Applicant must be of good character as evidenced by at least three (3) signed letters from teachers, principals, counselors, community leaders, employers, etc.
- Applicant must provide official test score sheet from either ACT or SAT testing.
- Applicant must demonstrate a coherent degree or vocational/technical certification plan and the willingness to pursue a course of higher learning.
- Economic need of the applicant will be given secondary consideration during the selection process.
- Applications must be received not later than March 4th for the fall semester. Awards will be announced within sixty (60) days of this date.
- The number of scholarships awarded shall be determined annually according to financial availability.
- Qualified applicants from all districts shall be given equal consideration.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
The initial scholarship award may be renewed for an additional seven consecutive semesters. The ability to renew is contingent upon meeting the enrollment status and grade point requirements contained in Section 3 above. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of funds available and the applicant’s eligibility.

OCEC Vocational-Technical Scholarship Mike Gaston/Ben Virden

Eligibility:
- Available to active members receiving service from Otero County Electric Cooperative, Inc. and their immediate families.
- Scholarship to be granted to attend an accredited New Mexico University, New Mexico Community College, or New Mexico Technical School.
- Applicant must maintain at least a satisfactory passing grade to be eligible for renewal.
- Applicant must be of good character as evidenced by at least three (3) signed letters from teachers, principals, counselors, community leaders, employers, etc.
- Applicant must demonstrate a coherent degree or vocational/technical certification plan and the willingness to pursue a course of higher learning.
- Economic need of the applicant will be given secondary consideration during the selection process.
- Applications must be received not later than March 4th for the fall semester. Awards will be announced within sixty (60) days of this date.
- It is the intent of the Educational Foundation to award a minimum of 2 Vocational/Technical scholarships, as funds allow, to graduating seniors whose parents receive electrical service within the Cooperatives certificated area.
